NEW: See a quick (~4 mins) walkthrough of the user interface for our new copiers, installed on 10/28/2021: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XW5ai8lJhNXlBXU_QRyCKzTIRhVjb7sF/view?usp=sharing
In order to meet the printing needs of a varied community such as MVS, we have created a printing system that is designed around 3 main priorities: ease of use, access to features, and security.
There are both multi-function copiers (printing, copying, scanning, emailing, stapling, duplex, resizing, et al.) and traditional, single-function laser printers on campus:
COPIERS are located:
in the LS workroom
outside the MS office
in the US hallway (across from the US office)
in the admin suite (this one has more professional finishing options)
LASER PRINTERS are located:
in the Early Childhood School
in the US Science Wing
at the Front Desk
in the Business Office
In addition to their above-mentioned additional functions, the copiers provide security and confidentiality by requiring a user-specific code before use. All users with MVS email accounts receive a 4-digit ID number for this purpose. If you forget your ID, contact MVSIT (techsupport@mvschool.com) for assistance.
All printing at MVS is provided by our PaperCut system, which uses our MVS Google accounts for authentication (i.e. signing into the service). Whenever employees using MVS-owned laptops are prompted to sign in by PaperCut, they should use ONLY the username (i.e. the part before the @ sign in their email address) and the password to their MVS Google account.
Employees and students have the ability to print to all of the devices listed above. Students and those employees who bring their own devices must utilize a service known as PaperCut Mobility Print. (NOTE: this service is available to all users.) This service is provided via a Chrome Web App that is automatically installed and configured when a user logs into the Chrome web browser (or a Chromebook computer) with their MVS account. Users don't need to do anything themselves beyond this to get access.
In order to use Mobility Print, printing must happen through the Chrome web browser. This might seem restrictive until it's realized that we do almost everything through a web browser anyway and that Chrome itself can open PDFs (and most images) without issue. Since all operating systems have "print to PDF" abilities built-in these days, anything is PDF-able and able to be printed.
When printing, just select the device from the list of available printers with the "Mobility Print" logo (those words and a green square with a P in it) that you'd like to send your job to. If you choose a laser printer, the print job will print immediately. (Most people will NOT want to use these devices.) If you choose the "Copiers" device, you can walk to any copier on campus, put in your ID number, and retrieve your print job(s).
Once a printer is selected and the "Print" button is pushed, you may be asked to log into PaperCut Mobility Print. To do so, just click the "Sign in with Google" button.
NOTES:
Jobs will be held for retrieval in the "Copiers" device queue for 24 hours, then deleted.
When retrieving a print job from a copier, you will be automatically logged out of the copier after 3 minutes of inactivity, but you are also encouraged to log yourself out as a courtesy to other users.
If you log into a single Chrome session with multiple accounts, make sure when printing that your MVS Google account is shown in the drop-down menu at the top of the printer selection window. Otherwise you may not see all printers available to you.
An additional client can be installed on any employee or student device that will allow additional features not available in the above default method of printing. The full client will allow printing from any application and any device while on the MVS Students or MVS Secure wifi. Click on the provided link below from the device in order to install the additional full client. Follow the instructions provided by the installer that will be specific for the type of device.
Additional Mobility Print Client
Once a printer is selected and the "Print" button is pushed, you may be asked to log in, the username is your MVS Google account WITHOUT the @mvschool.com and the password is your MVS Google account password.
NOTES:
The download may trigger a Google Chrome security feature and block the download. Go to chrome://settings/downloads and change the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" option slider to the right. Then reload the site and try the download again. You may want to change the slide back to the left when done or it will ask where to store the download everytime you attempt a download going forward.
Most folks only need / want to install "Copiers"
If you work in the EC, make sure to also select the EC Printer and install it as well.

In addition to the PaperCut Mobility Print process mentioned above, employees who use an MVS-owned laptop have direct, native Windows printing access to our printing devices, which gives them access to additional features from their computer, including printing from a specific tray, stapling, hole-punching, and collating (these options are universally available to anyone making copies at a copier).
The user must do a couple of steps in order to get this ability (THESE STEPS MUST BE DONE FROM CAMPUS):
go to the the "MVSIT's Helpful Files" shared folder in the G: Drive (G:\Shared drives\MVSIT's Helpful Files)
double-click on the shortcut titled "MVS Printer Local Installs"
in the window that opens, double click on any printer you would like to install (grant permission if asked)
there are also 3 folders in the location that is shown in that window - it's fine to ignore them

When printing with the PaperCut PC client on an MVS-owned laptop, you'll be asked to sign into the PaperCut system. There is a drop-down menu on the sign-in page that allows you to choose when you'd like to be asked to sign in again.
There is currently a bug in the RDS system used to connect to Senior Systems modules that interrupts the printing to local printers on the client side. The symptom is as follows:
the user logs into the SS module via RDS installed app (NOTE: the website method to access the app is inconsistent in its working and should be avoided if possible)
local print resources are fully available, including setup options like tray selection, and printing to a local print resource works as expected
user switches to a non-local printer (e.g. a PDF printer) and then applies / saves the switch
user tries to switch back to the local resource but finds that they've lost access to the "setup" function of the printer selection dialogue and cannot successfully print a job to that printer
WORKAROUND:
user closes the SS module and disconnects then reconnects to the RDS server, thus returning the setup to #1 in the list above where local resources are fully available
This workaround is consistently successful as of 7/15/2020.
The ability for a copier to hold special paper like letterhead in a dedicated tray makes using that special paper easy. It also opens up the possibility that a job you don't want to print on special paper accidentally does just that. Here's how to make sure your print job ends up on the type of paper you want:
NOTE: The following settings are not needed if printing via PaperCut Mobility Print, as that service does not offer the ability to specify a tray or media type, and it will always choose "plain" paper.
On your Windows computer, open the Start Menu, then start typing "Control Panel" and click on it when it shows up
in the Control Panel, click on "Devices and Printers."
In the window that opens, right click on the Copier device (which you must have already installed following the steps above) and choose "Printing preferences."
In the "Printing preferences" window, click on the down arrow next to the box under Paper: and choose "Plain" in the Other Type box.
You can also choose any other settings you'd like to be default, like 2-Sided Printing and Finishing options.
Click "Apply" then "OK."
This setting is sticky and will persist until you change it (or change computers). If you want to choose a special media type for a specific print job, you can make the selection via the "Preferences" button in the system print dialog and DO NOT click "Apply." This will change the setting only for that specific job.
